Ipoh, 22 October 2025 - Perak is taking another decisive step towards becoming Malaysia’s model state for sustainability and innovation with the launch of Green Tech Perak 2025, an initiative spearheaded by the Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk) under the patronage of YB Teh Kok Lim, Perak State Chairman of the Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee. The event, to be held from 25 to 28 October 2025 at Hotel Casuarina@Meru, Ipoh, represents the state’s growing commitment to advancing a low-carbon, knowledge-driven economy that upholds the principles of Perak Sejahtera 2030.

Guided by Principle 3 of Perak Sejahtera 2030 — Sustainable Use of Resources and the Natural Environment, Green Tech Perak 2025 transforms policy into tangible action by encouraging responsible resource management, community-driven climate resilience and environmental awareness. The programme, which serves as a prelude to the grand Green Tech Perak 2025 Conference & Exhibition in December, embodies Perak’s belief that sustainability must be rooted not only in government policy but also in the mindset of its people, industries and youth.

Through this initiative, Perak seeks to embed sustainability at every level of progress from technological advancement and digital innovation to education and public engagement. The event will gather industry leaders, academia, youths and communities to foster a culture of collaboration in addressing today’s most pressing environmental challenges. It is envisioned as the starting point for a statewide movement that champions renewable energy, eco-innovation and circular economy practices aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

PKNPk is committed to addressing economic inequalities to advance the SDGs. The organization pursues this mission by creating quality employment opportunities, promoting clean energy solutions, fostering innovation and encouraging global collaboration. Through the LuMIC initiative, PKNPk incorporates Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) benchmarks, evaluates climate-related risks and utilizes real-time data to inform adaptive, evidence-based policies in response to economic and environmental uncertainties. In this context, LuMIC has directly contributed to several SDGs, particularly SDGs 4 and 5, by developing inclusive industrial education programs for youth; strengthening SDG 7 through solar and hydrogen energy generation; and supporting SDG 8 by creating over 50,000 jobs and upskilling the local workforce. SDG 9 is reinforced through the establishment of the Maritime Innovation Hub, while SDG 10 is addressed by reducing economic inequalities. SDG 17 is further strengthened through international collaborations with the EU and the Port of Antwerp-Bruges via green investments and global partnerships.

The October launch will feature a range of interactive and educational experiences designed to spark curiosity and action among participants. Among the highlights are the Rainforest Tree Planting Program, which symbolises the state’s long-term commitment to environmental preservation; the Perak Science Fair for Youth, which empowers students to view sustainability through the lens of STEM and innovation; and the GENIUS LAB Workshops, which introduce participants to artificial intelligence, digital literacy and green solutions. Complementing these are the Climate Resilience & Global Peace Pocket Talks, a series of thought-provoking sessions in which experts, educators and advocates discuss how science and community-based initiatives can strengthen global harmony and local resilience.

Speaking ahead of the launch, YB Teh Kok Lim emphasised that Green Tech Perak 2025 represents a clear manifestation of Principle 3 of Perak Sejahtera 2030, ensuring that economic development never comes at the expense of environmental balance.

“Principle 3 of Perak Sejahtera 2030 calls for responsible stewardship of our natural resources, ensuring that we protect the environment for future generations. Green Tech Perak 2025 turns that philosophy into practical action, connecting innovation with sustainability and people with purpose,” he said.

He added that Perak is positioning itself as a state where green innovation is not just encouraged but mainstreamed. “By empowering youth and communities through science, technology and innovation, we are building a generation ready to lead Perak’s green economy, one that is both sustainable and competitive.”

Datuk Redza Rafiq, Chief Executive of PKNPk, shared that the initiative is more than a one-off event. It is the foundation of a long-term ecosystem of collaboration.

“Green Tech Perak 2025 is designed as a catalyst. It connects our industries, institutions and people to accelerate Perak’s transition towards a greener, smarter and more inclusive economy under the Perak Sejahtera 2030 banner,” he said.

At the heart of this initiative lies PKNPk’s ongoing commitment to advancing renewable energy and sustainable development across Perak. PKNPk has been steadily driving projects that harness the State’s natural resources responsibly, from hydropower generation and solar energy ventures to the integration of green infrastructure within its industrial and community developments. These initiatives showcase Perak’s ability to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship, positioning the State as one of Malaysia’s emerging leaders in green energy and sustainability.

PKNPk’s renewable energy roadmap, developed in collaboration with strategic partners, includes efforts to expand hydropower generation, establish solar energy installations in industrial parks and explore hybrid renewable-energy ventures such as hydro-solar integration. These projects reflect PKNPk’s long-term vision of building a cleaner, smarter and more resilient Perak. Collectively, they form a cornerstone of the Perak Sejahtera 2030 agenda, translating policy into measurable action and providing a strong foundation for Green Tech Perak 2025 to amplify and showcase Perak’s progress in sustainable, innovation-driven growth.

“These ongoing renewable energy and sustainable development initiatives form a meaningful backdrop to Green Tech Perak 2025, reflecting PKNPk’s steady contribution to Perak’s green transition,” Datuk Redza added. This event naturally extends our efforts, providing a platform to share progress, inspire collaboration and encourage wider participation in Perak’s sustainability journey. In this way, Green Tech Perak 2025 becomes both a celebration of what has been achieved and a catalyst for what lies ahead.

The upcoming December Conference & Exhibition will build on this momentum by bringing together thought leaders, investors and policymakers from across Malaysia and abroad to discuss renewable energy, green financing and ESG innovation. Together, these two milestones will place Perak firmly on the national and regional map as a forward-looking state that does not merely talk about sustainability but actively demonstrates it.

Green Tech Perak 2025 is open to the public with free admission, inviting Malaysians from all walks of life to be part of the state’s journey towards a sustainable, innovative and resilient future.
